Chronic Disease & Oral Health Professional Development Summit Theme: Safe & Support Environments What is a safe and supportive environment? The natural, social and physical environments, in which people live, learn, work, and play, have a major impact on their health and quality of life. Safe and supportive environments provide access to culturally appropriate services and promotion of healthy and safe lifestyles (e.g. affordable, healthy food; culturally safe health care; and traditional physical activities, etc.). Building safe and supportive environments requires a cooperative, coordinated, and collaborative approach among all partners who are working to improve health and wellness outcomes with and for First Nations and Inuit Peoples. Summit Details: When: April 7-9th, 2020 Where: Moncton, NB Theme: Building Safe and Supportive Environments Purpose: Networking, Professional Development, Sharing community success stories Target Audience: • COHI aides • Dental Therapists* • Community Diabetes Prevention workers • Community Diabetes Consultants • Community based Tobacco workers • Health and Wellness Promoters • Community Education workers Note: funding is available for 2 individuals per community (1 COHI aide and 1 individual working in Chronic Disease Prevention and Management/Public Health). The option to self-fund is available should interest in your community/organization be high. Meals can be provided for those wishing to self-fund their registration. MCPEI will make every effort to off-set costs associated but will not be able to confirm additional support until 2-3 days before summit. Potential Topics to be included in agenda**: • Oral health linkages with Chronic disease • Social media skills development • Policy/by-law development process • Cultural competency • Cannabis • Tobacco and vaping • Nutrition/Food Security *Dental therapists funded via Primary Health Care ** Advisory committee currently planning the agenda for the summit
